B Town.

B Fans. B Teams. B Movie.

Are the Bronco’s Lijit? Am I fit to decide? I’m a sports “B” guy. I don’t know plays like sports writers, strategies like strategy followers. I’m a newspaper reading B guy living in a B town. Boulder. It’s near Denver, a B city. If sports heat up, I follow it. Sometimes “B” cities have “A” teams for a season or two. Love him/Hate him, John Elway hit the “A” in the “B” town. Is there anything more fun than “B” town winning against the “A” team?

The Yankees are losers whenever they don’t win the World Series. You wanna live with that? Brett Fauvre has lived the “A” life. Now, in a second wind afterlife, Fauvre is again living the “A” life in this second wind with the Green Bay Packers, and as “A” players will do, he beat the Broncos in overtime in a classic aging “A” quarterback vs. a yet to prove he’s an “A” Broncos quarterback.

“A” people know what it’s like to live the “B” life. Seinfeld. McCartney. Fauvre. They move through “B” and if good/lucky/smart/creative/hard working enough, they hit “A”. Careers may falter, “A” people may produce “B” results, but “B” results from “A” people is different from “B” results from “B” people. At anytime, “A” people can do “A” things. And we wait around for “A” people to repeat. And we forgive them if they don’t.

I am in no way anti “A”, as a “B” person. “A” people in critical war theater are very, very handy to have around. Patton was an “A” General, no matter how bad his PR. Having an “A” General when the fate of the world is at hand is very, very, VERY handy.

Is Shanahan an “A” coach? Stats wise I think they say he is. But the word on the street is Shanny needs to win the big one with another team , besides an Elway team. The truly “A” coaches win Superbowls with more than one mix of teams.

I was in New York in the mid 1980’s following and rooting for the Mets, and when they lost big, radio and press addressed the therapy and depression of Met fans, and how to deal with it. None of this kind of talk is in the Colorado press in 2007 with the Rockies falter at the gates of the baseball World Series. The Rockies had a great run, and it ended. But it was a watershed and Colorado had a great time with their team. No depression. Thankfulness and appreciation. And hope for the future.

I love and appreciate the “A” people in our world. I love living the “B” life. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Stuffing 10 pounds of big city into the 3 pound bag called "Denver"

My family attended the now historical 9/28 single loss out of 22 games of the Rockies vs. Phillies late season 2007.

At Coors field when they have fireworks, sections 148-160 are led onto the field to watch them, since they fire up from behind the big scoreboard directly opposite home plate at the other end of the field. My daughter got a tiny scoop of warning track dirt and put that and her ticket in a ziploc that night of fireworks.

My wife left with the kids in the fourth inning to get food. She came back with three hot dogs and drinks THREE innings later, in the Seventh. The beer call was getting close. The poor food vendors at Coors Field had never encountered a packed house. I went for a beer and a security guard told me the line was closed, they were out of everything. I said, "I'll eat what fell on the floor" and he cut the line end behind me.

The food workers were simply dazed. There eyes glazed over. The usually chipper dude who shouts "Extra cheese on them nachos!!" was hoarse and timid. A buffalo stampede had charged into Coors Field and they were mopping up the wreckage. I got the last hot dog in Coors Field that night. It tasted like Filet Mignon. With Onions and Mustard. I also got the very, very last legal beer at Coors Stadium that night. I had placed the order just as the 7th inning ended and beer sales stopped. The cashier said "NO", but the hoarse timid usually happy extra nacho cheese on the chips guy said I made it in time.The Coors Beer I never ever drink was champagne. I was back at a Big City Game with Big City implications and a roaring crowd. My kids saw the most people together they've ever seen. The 10 pound Big City Rockies stampede is being stuffed into the 3 pound bag called Denver. Stuffed at the food stands. Stuffed on the streets with cars and people. Stuffed on the TV news, stuffed on the papers, stuffed in the talk at the water cooler.

My kids teacher let them get a substitute for him so he could be on a computer Monday, 10/22, to be whacking the 'ENTER' Key to by a ticket to the World Series. So was I at work at Lijit. Its true. I was in the office but you may as well say I was not in the office. I was hitting the refresh all day. For anything. A Rock Pile seat behind the camera man with no view for $75 ?? SURE! A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

Well Monday the Rockies Internet sales plan did not work. Why? Because the freaking world was hitting the enter key Monday at ColoradoRockies DOT com. Not just baseball fans either. People in Malaysia who will flip the ticket onto Craigs List or Ebay were hitting the Enter key too. They will be doing it today at NOON. Me too.

Thought George might be smart this time? Ha.

Joetorre Don't let Sports Illustrated's or Yahoo's or any media headline fool you, Torre did not 'reject' the screwball offer George made, the offer was a firing, whatever the spin.

For a week, I thought George was smart. His threat gave the Yankees a brief spark, and they won a game after it in the playoffs. Let the players know their manager is on the line for their performance. Sure. But fire Joe Torre?

But George is not smart, and no amount of money can ever make him a great owner, ever.

If there is anything to like about the ameoba called the Yankees, it was Joe Torre. Now, its just a big blob that eats whatever threatens it, and turns them into part of the blob. Not a team, an all star brake.
